Sandy is Jesse's favourite person... Er, playmate

Whenever Jesse and I play outside (which is pretty much all day, every day), Jesse hangs out with our labby. They are best buddies! Where the one goes, the other follows. It's so cute.

While I find it adorable that these two are such good pals, it leads me to wonder if Jesse might need some playmates. Of a more homo sapien variety. You know, before Jesse starts barking.

*sigh* Where are some good, fertile eggs when you need them?

Catastrophe!

A few days ago our adopted cat, Angel, started doing her business indoors, on my bath mat. Much to the dismay of my nostrils. Since she’s a pretty proud feline, this was rather embarrassing for her. She slinked past me uttering a very sad meowwwwww and I knew something was up. When I inspected the spot of her indiscretion, I found blood in her puddle. We rushed her off to the vet immediately, who informed us that Angel either has kidney stones or a bladder infection.

.

Aw, poor kitty! Now, whether it’s kidney stones OR a bladder infection makes little difference to me – because I’ve seen grown men cry when passing stones, and grown women cry when passing urine during a bladder infection. Either way I am feeling very very sorry for little Angie-pangie right now. Poor girlie!

.

The vet informed us that the only way to be sure which of the two illnesses she’s suffering from, would be to acquire a urine sample.

.

HELLO? A urine sample??? From a cat???

.

And then the vet did a little sniggery snigger, as if to say “Haha! Glad it’s not me!”

.

She sent us home with a sterile jar that many of you infertiles might recognize as a swimmer catcher. If you know what I mean.

.

And then hubsband dearest proceeded to inform me that it would be MY job to catch said urine. Seeing as he did the whole Jesse-feeding-drama. The words “you owe me” might or might not have been uttered. Can’t be sure. What with the world swirling before my very eyes at the thought of my prancing around with my hand beneath the cat’s hoo-hah attempting to catch a drop or two of that stinky stuff.

.

Needless to say, I spent the next three days lurking around the cat with a bottle in my hand. And it rained. And my girl was teething at the time. So, at one point I had Jesse balanced on my one hip and a sterile jar in my other hand while I dexterously danced through big mud puddles chasing after the blinking cat who kept jumping up and running away as soon as I strategically placed my hand between her hind legs.

.

And I still haven’t procured a single drop of the friggin stuff for the sniggery vet. One might say that it posed a wee problem.

.

I crack myself up!

.

Anyhoo. It’s been a bit of a catastrophe, to say the very least. For now, Angel is semi-ok. Got new meds from the vet and hopefully she’ll be on the mend soon, because clearly it is more difficult to acquire a drop of the doodi from a cat than to teach a toddler to eat.

.

Ask me. I’m still recovering from that episode!

Nervous tic(k)

Did you ever read the email that did the rounds a year or more ago, about the woman who attempted to help her son's lizard (maybe a gecko?) give birth, but unbeknown to her, gecko's don't give birth to live young and she was actually just yanking it's, uh, ahem, chain?

(Yeah, it's all downhill from here. Don't say I didn't warn you.)

Wellll, monkey see, monkey do. And yeah, you guessed it, I'm the monkey. Minus the gecko. But add one big fat city slicker cat that we adopted from my sister when they moved to New Zealand last month. But that's a whole other story, and one that I'll only be telling when it no longer reduces me to crocodile tears.

Anyhoo... Where was I? Oh yes.

It won't be news to y'all that I'm still pretty much a city slicker myself, so I don't do bugs too easily. Warra warra fish paste, long story short, it's the end of a long day and I'm doing the Hillbilly Couch Potato Thing this evening after the rest of the Hillbilly Household have hit the hay, when Big Fat City Slicker Cat hops up onto the couch next to me for a snuggle and a nibble of my KFC sprinkle pops, when SHOCK! HORROR! What do I spy dangling from her torso but a big fat spongy tick! And where was Hubby when I needed him, but already throwing some ZZzzz's around the room! Well, there aint no way I'm going to bed tonight wondering if Angel (the big fat city slicker cat) is hoping to follow me to bed with that grotesque parasite dangling from her... So off I run to the trusty bathroom cabinet to grab my tweezer and return to detick fatcat. Only, by the time I've summoned up my courage and swallowed the bile collecting in my mouth, placed the tweezer tips firmly on the tick and yanked... It's only then that I see it is more firmly attached than a tick... It is in fact a fat cat nipple! And I will never be grabbing anything ever again with a tweezer. I am so grossed out that I can't sleep. Ew. Poor cat. The next time she sees a tweezer coming it will be enough to give her a nervous tic.

Because I'm devoid of inspiration time...

...and because I am totally guilty of neglecting you guys, I'm going to cop out of blogging today by just sharing some pics of my lil pork chop. (I don't eat pork, but anyhoo...) These are TERRIBLE quality too, because I snapped them on my cellphone. Robin has the camera with him at work for the camps he's hosting, so it's my cellphone or nothing.

A word from Jazzy:-
MMmmmeow! So, this is what my competition looks like!
Mmmmmmm... I don't know what all the fuss is about!
But she sure can make a huge noise. Wonder if she wants to join our cat's choir?Oh well, as long as she doesn't mind sharing Char's lap with me,
I guess I can tolerate her. Purrrr... purrr...

Look into my eyyyyeeeessss...
Look deeeeeep into my eyyyyeeeeesssss...
Now, tell me I'm not the most gorgeous person on the planet!

I'm even cute when I'm schnacking!

... or napping!

...or squealing! I just need to squeak and I have everyone jumping up and down. Lots of fun. At least, I think so!

And then, just when my mommy doesn't know what to do with me anymore, I flash her one of my dazzlers!

Mom -she's a sucker for my smiles!

Our Poor Lass, Cassidy

My poor little kitty, Cassidy, was attacked by dogs on Monday. I didn't mention it yesterday, because I was waiting to hear from the vet how she was... When Robin and I arrived home from a day or two in Durbs the animals were all acting a little weird. Well, a little weirder than usual. Being hillbilly pets and all. They didn't come running up to us and jump all over our luggage, nor even wag their tails or send a few purrs and legrubs our way. Robin and I were both like "what's up with the fandamily that they aren't happy to see us?" and then I found little Cassidy curled up on the bed in our 2nd bedroom, all ripped up and bloody. Poor little kitty. Fortunately none of her internal organs were hurt, but I feel soooo sorry for her. She spent Monday night in hospital, and had bunches of stitches. She's very battered and bruised and moving around takes great effort and lots of limping - but I am SO GRATEFUL that it happened shortly before we got home, and not the previous day when we were still in Durbs. Poor little girly. She's still a bit forlorn, but she will survive. Which is more than can be said for my walrus nerves!

I would post a pic of her in all of her shaved and stitched glory, but this blinking blogger is still just giving me error messages. One good thing though, is it's forcing me to learn some html in trying to figure out where the error lies. Apparently old dogs can learn new tricks. Erm. Ahem.

And we're still waiting and waiting to hear anything about the adoption... What was it I was saying about my walrus nerves?

Back and This and That

Hello everyone. I feel like I am emerging from the very depths of the deepest pit today. The last two days have been horrible really. Not life destroying, or sad. I just felt weighed down with heaviness. My body was crampy. And tired. Oh, so very tired. Everything I did required monumental effort and even smiling took some doing. How awful. What a terrible waste of a few days.
.
The last two days reminded me why I hated the Dragon Pills so much and why I had decided that I would never use them again... and yet, here I am. I wonder what I was thinking to even contemplate trying again. Especially when I feel so bad on them. Oh well. I'll have to ride this cycle out. I still have two more months of pills... but, man, I don't know if I want to try again after this spell of feeling so crappy...
.
But, today I'm feeling better. I don't quite have my groove back, but at least my body isn't so crampy anymore. Ha-le-luuuuuu-jah! Oh, and I especially wanted to say THANK YOU to Rita for her short comment on my One Bad Post. You made me feel like I wasn't going mad at all. You reminded me that this isn't the real me. It's those blinking Dragon Pills. Thank you!!! You will never know how much that meant (means) to me. The other comments too, but that one really made me feel "sjoe! it's going to be ok." I'm so glad I met you! The Been There, Done That Club helps me so much.

And in other news, you will never believe who we saw yesterday. Go ahead, guess! Remember my kitty that ran away last year? We never did find out what had happened to her. And then, last night Robin and I were driving up our hillbilly driveway after our date, when the lights of our 4x4 landed on some eyes reflecting in the bushes. That's not a strange occurrence when you live in the bush, so we didn't get too excited about it. And then the lights fell on the animal again, and she was sitting in the driveway, about 200metres from the house. Robin and I both shouted "Moonie!" at the same time, and she darted into the bush. We didn't see her again, even though we walked up and down the road calling for her for about fifteen minutes. At least I know she's fat and happy. And hasn't been mauled by wild dogs or something. Just why she would choose to live in the bush and have to hunt for food etc. when she gets yummy food and a warm spot on our bed at home is beyond me. So, you see - The Hillbilly Syndrome strikes again. Even the cats aren't immune.
.
And on a totally different note - welcome back to the blogosphere Chrissy. I'm so glad you're blogging again.

And now I'm going to make myself an enormous cuppa coffee, because if my body's sending me the right messages, then this cycle definitely hasn't worked, and I can just as well enjoy a good cuppa in commiseration.

Sorry guys - I had links and photo's in the post, and it was nicely formatted, and then we had a power out and now blogger's giving me error messages... I'll try to fix this post later again.

Hillbilly Baxter

Remember this cute pic I posted a while ago? Notice how fluffy and clean he is? Err, yes, I know he's gorgeous, but I'm actually referring to Baxter, the corgy. Snigger snigger!
Mmmm... Clearly, he enjoys playing in the garden.

Now look how dirty he is!

Even the corgies are turning into Hillbillies. It comes with the territory and nobody is immune. I'm not entirely sure it isn't catching over cyber-space. Let this be your warning then.

Achtung Baby! Hillbillies lurking.

Doggy issues

Welcome to the Funny Farm, folks.
.
On your left, our cows, currently undergoing some or other vaccinnation which left the whole herd of them bellowing at some unearthly hour of the morning. And raising the dead fast asleep and forcing them to wake up on the wrong side of the bed. No names mentioned. But you could find her still sitting in her pajammies at the computer blogging right now. And downing her third cuppa.
.
On the right, the chickens which scavenge food from the dog's bowls at every available opporunity. Chancers. The bunch of them. Don't be surprised if someday, somewhere, somehow, you find yourselves on the Colonel's List of Most Wanted for Rounders. And that's all I have to say about that.
.
Chasing the chickens are the two happy corgies, Buttercup and Baxter. Our dogs in shining armour.
.
Bringing up the rear and chasing the corgies are the three kittens who think they're sheepdogs: Jazzy, Cassidy and Peanut.
.
And hiding under the bed in our spare room is Kiara. Our severely depressed and forlorn pooch. She is now on anti-depressants. I kid you not. Two days ago she spent the night outside, because now matter how much we offered her the chickens on buns bribed her and goaded her and called for her, she refused to come inside. She thinks we're Freddy Kruger. I can see it in her eyes. Which leads me to believe that someone must have hurt her sometime before we adopted her. So, anyway, after days of wooing, she still didn't like us. At all. What I don't understand is - what's not to like? Seriously. So, we came to the conclusion that she must have a few issues.
.
Which wouldn't be too surprising, what with this being the Funny Farm and all.
.
We took a drive to the vet's and he diagnosed her as clinically depressed with a case of severe separation anxiety, due to previous neglect and not enough KFC too much change in her environment. She is now on happy pills. The kind that make her bounce around the yard like a ping-pong ball and chase the cats who are chasing the dogs who are chasing the chickens.
.
So, basically, she now fits right in.

Who can resist?...

... a sexy guy and his cute new puppy? Meet Baxter, our new little corgie...

And this here is Baxter's mom, Kiara, the other newest member of our family:

And then there are a few new additions to our kitchen...

My new african masks. I just luvvem! (I had to show a closeup so you could see the scale of these guys!) Way to usher in the new year, that's for sure. Let's just say I was starved for some serious retail therapy, and Durban still doesn't know what hit it when we arrived!

Kit-Kat

It turns out our new kitty is not a SHE but a HE! You could call it a case of mistaken identity. But the vet says he is a very sturdy 4-5 week old little fella. So, you know what that means? Feeds through the night, with a special little baby bottle and formula, wiping his butt so that he'll know it's time to go do his business, and all those other fun fun jobs. What a cutie pie he is! Now it's just naming the little guy... We have a few ideas. What do you think?

What should we name our new kitty?
Jonah - as in Lomu (because he's an All Black!)
Peanut Butter - Peanut for short (because Black Cat Peanut Butter is the best peanut butter on the planet)
Shadow
Uswot (it means "black" in Old Egyptian / Persian language)
Boytjie

Or give us some suggestions ok?

Newbie

My heart is pumping thick lumpy custard! Siggghhhh... Guess what is sitting on my lap right now? Our brand new little kitty, which Robin rescued from a tyre dump in town today! Just look at this cutie pie! Awwwww, hello kitty...

She's been purring on my lap all day. Apart from the times she almost suckled my finger nails off that is. Isn't she just the most beautiful little thing? So, we're brainstorming names. Any ideas?

Butt ugly!

50 Reasons Why NOT To Get a Vitamin B12 Injection:-
  1. It's friggin sore!
  2. It's friggin sore!
  3. It's friggin sore!
  4. etc.

Seriously. What? You think I'm exaggerating? Here's the evidence. Oh, and that is a WEEK OLD bruise, just in case you were thinking I'm a real ninny.

Ahem, um, yes, that is my butt. Sorry. Didn't meant to put you off your breakfast. BUT(t), I do feel better. I am back at work, and LOVING it. Hooray for work. And getting out of the house. So maybe that kick-a** Vitamin B12 jobba worked after all. Which makes that bruise on my ugly butt totally worth it.

My kitty (Cassidy) is back at the vet again. It's been a total rollercoaster ride. One day she's looking better, the next she's not eating again, not moving etc. So we took her in yesterday and she spent the night on the drip again. Poor little pooty tat. Please keep praying for her?

Cassidy today

My kitty lives. And breathes. And moves. And purrs again. I am soooo grateful! Really. Our vet rocks. As does God, by the way. I am CERTAIN that if you guys hadn't been praying for my little Cassidy, we'd have had to plant her yesterday. But instead, she's walking again and purring. And eating by herself!!! Which is really the best part of all. Did you know that even an emaciated cat on the brink of death can tear the very skin off of your handsarmslegschestface when she's desperate not to get any, as in ANY, medicine or food into her mouth? You best believe it, folks. You'd be surprised at the depth of the reserves they have to draw from when a syringe is in the vicinity of their oral cavity. My oh my.

Little Cassy, I'm so glad you're getting better. Mommy loves you! (hehe! Just a wee bit of pouring-my-pent-up-love-for-my-unborn-children-onto-my-pets showing through there. Not quite qualifying for The Crazy Cat Lady yet, but getting close huh? Sigh!)
As for this sicko, I got the blood test results back today. All's well that ends well. I'm on the mend! Woot woot! You know how sometimes when things are hectic at work and you're itching for some downtime you sometimes wish to be booked off with a minor ailment? Well, I was like that. And for the record, I am SO OVER wishing I could be booked off with a minor ailment! Lesson learned. Be careful what you wish for.

Cassidy *updated*

I'm sending out an urgent plea for prayer. It may sound frivolous to you, and probably half of you are going to say "Ag, it's just a cat" and you're probably right. But she's my cat, and she's really sick. Little Cassidy has picked up some or other bug and in the last day and a half has already lost more weight than what she'd gained in the two weeks she's been here. She is not eating, not drinking water. She's not walking. Purring. Meowing. Moving. We took her to the vet yesterday when she refused to eat. He gave her three injections, sent home mooti and special food for her, but when we even try to give her 5ml's of food, we only get 2ml's out the syringe, and most of that lands up on you and not in her mouth. She is going from bad to worse. I am sad beyond sad. Spent most of the night holding my cat and bawling my eyes out. Robin has taken her back to the vet now. I am so afraid she's not going to come back home. I've been bargaining with God all night.

Please save my cat, God. Please save my cat.
She's just a little bitty thing, but I love her so much.
I know You CAN save her, but sometimes You choose not to do the things we ask of You. Please, just this once, can You do something for me?
Please rescue this little creature that I love.
I didn't even bargain with God about Jodi-lee. I simply accepted that whatever happened, happened. I trusted. I trusted in God's plan for my happiness. Please will you guys pray with me today? It's just a cat. I know. But really, she's my kitty. And my heart's already breaking for her.

*Update* It is 12h40 now. Robin eventually took little Jazzy in to the vet as well, because he also started with the squitters. The vet treated both of them, had Cassidy on a drip for a while, and has now sent both kitties home. They are both getting the royal treatment right now: lying on my bed, on a mohair blankie, with a freshly washed and tumbled fluffy blankie on top of them both, and are dozing like contented kittens. Which I hope they are. I keep going into the bedroom and checking on them. Keep those prayers shooting heavenwards, people. Things are looking good!

Kitties & Sickies

I am sick at home with the flu. Again. I've been out of action since Saturday morning. I finally set aside my disdain for all of the medical fraternity on Monday morning (only at my boss's threats to drag me to the doc, if it meant he had to toss me over his shoulder like a sack of potatoes and carry me there kicking and screaming, which would have been mighty fun to watch since the advent of my weigtier middle, et cetera insistance) and went to get some meds. And a jobba* on the toeshie too. My boss's son's friend (only a little guy about pre-teen aged) just died from this flu on the weekend. Another middle-aged man in town (named Frenchie) also died on the weekend, also from this flu, so my boss aint taking any chances. Now, who's to say that taking one on the butt is so bad? I (almost) didn't even feel that one. Lucky for the nurse whom I'd accused just seconds before that I'd heard about her penchant for using butts as dartboards me. As you all know, I just luuuuurve getting needles stuck into me. Anyway, I must say though, that having this flu bug has given me lots of bonding time with my kitties. They love me. I just know it. They come running whenever I call them, they purr on me and smother me with loves and licks and adoring stares. Here's a pic of sicko me, holed up under my fave blankie in bed, chatting to my sister on my cell, book balanced in my lap and my kitties loving on me. All that was missing was a cappuccino. Otherwise? Pure bliss, baby. Sicko and all.

Hello Kitty

What could possibly be better than a kitty snuggling into your neck and purring all night? TWO kitties snuggling into your neck and purring all night. I just love our new little family members! meet Jazzy (the boy) and Cassidy (our little girl).

Now tell me those aren't the most precious little creatures you've ever seen? They are so happy here too. They purr every time you touch them and cuddle right up as close as they can get to you. Too cute. Oh and just in case you were wondering - no these aren't Maine Coon kittens. We're getting our Maine Coon in December (they only give the kittens away at age 12 weeks...) so it's the Waiting Game for the catzilla.

Aaaaanyway, good news is: today we're getting kittens! Two of them!!! Woot woot! Way too exciting to be miserable today. Watch this space. I'll be posting pics as soon as they aren't scared of me anymore! Yippeee!

Scaredy Cat

I've been scarce. For a myriad of reasons... But mainly because I'm a total scaredy cat! Really. My sister will testify to it, happily, if you gave her half a chance. I'm not actually one of those people who cower in a corner during a massive storm, but man, there sure is a first time for everything. That's for sure. Last night we had one of those storms that leaves you sitting in a corner shivering. And praying to the dear Lord for mercy. And I mean that literally. One minute I was merrily sitting on my couch, laptop on my (fat) lap, scoffing rusks and drinking milo, logging on so I could blog - the next minute there was one ENORMOUS thundering rumble and a lightning strike that made everything turn luminous purple... followed by pitch darkness and only the humm humm of my still-loading-up laptop. Well, needless to say, I almost left a few stripes in my brooks. And can you believe my bad luck - Robin was still at the Bush Camp attending to a bunch of hooligans who arrived yesterday for a camp. (More about that later...) so it was just me and my dawg. And both of us were trying our best to climb onto the other's eyelashes for comfort.
.
You know how you know you have candles, matches, torches etc. somewhere in the house? Well, so did I. I just didn't know where in the friggin house they were. Lucky for me, my nifty cellphone doubles as a torch in crises. Only thing is, the light from a cellphone makes things look really creepy. And we have lots of nooks and crannies in our house. Where monsters lurk in the dark, and all of that. Ha! I hear you scoffing! Monsters??? Well, you call them rats, I call them monsters. And they also get creeped out by cellphone lights wandering around the house in the dark. Believe me. I heard them scuttling about. I eventually gave up the fight to remain brave, went and cowered in a corner of my bedroom, with my back to the wall, my dawg at my side, and phoned my hubby to instruct him to return home so forth. I call him Batman now. Swooping into danger in the darkness of night to rescue a damsel in distress. And all of that.
.
So, if I'm scarcer for the next while, it's really all about the weather. Have so much on my mind, but too scared to log on while it's storming. Would hate to have my nifty new wireless thingy struck by lightning, after I waited so long for it to arrive. Oh boy, just the thought of it gives me the shudders. Which just serves to reinforce the fact that I'm indeed a scaredy cat.

Hubby n poochy

Couldn't resist posting these pics of my hubby and Buttercup sitting together in their hammock on our stoep, that I took a minute ago.

[ Pardon the pink star - this is a family friendly blog after all]
